WhatsApp statuses, the ephemeral contents of the messaging app, allow users to share personalized updates in a variety of formats, and are presented on these dates as an option to wish Christmas to friends and family.
With statuses, users can share updates that disappear within 24 hours, whether it’s text, video, a photo, or a gif. They can also be customized with elements such as ‘stickers’, filters or text, and have a maximum duration of 30 seconds.
This type of content can become a “window to share Christmas” in chats, and encourage celebration from a distance, for example, with a Christmas contest to see who has put more lights in their home.
Status visibility can be set to be visible to all contacts, but they can also introduce exceptions (which are visible to everyone except …) or be limited to a group of people (share only with .. .).
HOW TO UPLOAD A WhatsApp STATUS
Uploading a status to WhatsApp is as easy as opening the app. In it users will find, on the main page, three tabs at the top (chats, statuses and calls). You just have to go to ‘states’.
Once inside, you will see that on the side of your profile picture you put ‘My status’. By clicking directly on this option they can open the camera – if they want to share a photo or video – or the gallery, from where they can select the content they want.
Once selected, they can edit it or add a comment. Once ready, they will only have to press the submit button for it to be published.
The statuses tab also shows contacts updates. To see them, just click on them, which will open in a larger window. And while it’s playing, users can respond.
