Soapbox: The PS5 pad has made all the other controllers feel old

DualSense PS5 PlayStation 5 1

At the time of writing, I’m playing Cyberpunk 2077 and, in addition to all the other issues – and there are many – one thing that worries me is the lack of DualSense support. Viouslybviament, this is a PlayStation 4 game, so I never expected you to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 pad, but here I leave it here: it’s hard to get back to basic functionality once you’ve experienced what the new controller can do by Sony.

I’ve been noticing this for a long time, to be honest. A few weeks ago I played Resident Evil 3, which was great on its own, but not getting any resistance from the triggers when firing Jill Valentine’s weapons was very disappointing, and the rumor had no nuances. Again, it’s a PS4 game, so I had no real expectations, but what I’m trying to do is make it very hard to go back once you’ve experienced what DualSense can do.

Let’s take racing games, for example: I recently booted Burnout Paradise on a whim and liked to boil around the sandbox, but racing games don’t seem right without the triggers sticking out under my fingers. These old games don’t have the added dimension of feedback that PS5 offers, and while they’re still fun on their own merit, you seem to have lost one of your senses; it’s like eating spaghetti bolognese without being able to smell the aroma of the sauce.

To be clear, this observation does not only apply to titles compatible with earlier versions; I think even a game like Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which uses some of the features of DualSense but doesn’t go crazy, feels flat compared to Astro’s Playroom. And there aren’t many first-person shooters on the PS5, but I just can’t imagine playing one without the texture that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War adds. Even sports games no longer seem right to me without resistance to activators to illustrate fatigue.

Here’s where you have to give credit to Sony: I really liked the DualShock 4, but playing with it feels downright pathetic once you’ve used DualSense. This is not only because of the improved ergonomics of the PS5 pad, but also because it adds so many nuances to the games when implemented correctly. Of course, I can still play and enjoy PS4 games, but I can’t help but feel that something is missing now. The PS5 controller has literally changed the game.

What do you think you can play now without the proper integration of DualSense? Do you think something is missing since you used the controller or do you think that the unique functions and functions of the bearing are overrated? Feel different in the comments section below.
