Soggy begins the new year with heavy rain expected in New York

Sydneysiders could have a wet start until 2021, with early models suggesting heavy rains on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Ben Domensino, a meteorologist in the weather zone, told Yahoo News Australia that initial modeling shows heavy rainfall across NSW to begin in 2021 and end in 2021.

“On the broad set, what we’re seeing is a low-pressure trough moving east of Australia before encountering a jet of moisture in the north,” he said.

“It’s similar to what we saw earlier this week. Some parts of northern NSW received heavy rainfall. Tamworth reached 90 mm. “

Tuesday was the rainiest day in Tamworth since 2012. Nearby, Walgett was saturated by more than 38mm during Monday and Tuesday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Parts of Northern NSW, including Evans Head, received about 32mm on Sunday.

Domensino added that if the models are correct, these areas could see flooding.

Wet start to 2021 for Sydney

Early models suggest that Sydney could receive 30-40mm during the start of the new year.

Domensino said Brisbane will not be heavily affected by the wet weather, although “Sydney is more likely to be affected”.

The southern and western parts of Queensland could receive heavy rainfall.

In Western Australia, the Kimberley region, which has already been hit by a flood, could also suffer more rain along with other parts of northern Australia.

“They will get stuck in this weather pattern for the new year,” Domensino said.

Mount Elizabeth, north of Broome, was hammered 74mm on Sunday.

Domensino said the modeling is still in the early stages, but some different models suggest a wet January 1.

“It will all depend on how this trough is developed and we will have more idea by the end of the week,” he said.

The model also suggests little or no rain for Melbourne or Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Christmas Day will see a mix of warm weather and rain across the country. Perth will raise the temperature by 35 degrees, while Melbourne and Sydney will be much cooler with 21 and 23 forecasts respectively.
