Drivers blew their horns Wednesday as they passed protesters marching on Cedar Crest Boulevard in front of the Lehigh Valley health network.
Among those protesting was Rita O’Donnell, who works in the area.
“I’ve been a nurse for 43 years,” she said.
O’Donnell disagrees with the major hospitals in the area (LVHN, St. Lukes and Good Shepherd) that force all of its employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
“It’s not FDA approved, it’s experimental,” O’Donnell said.
A local medical assistant, who asked us not to use her name, also opposes the warrant.
“I’m sick of being harassed, being told that’s what I have to do to keep my job. If I lose my job, I lose my job, it’s one less person who cares about people,” he said.
She and a few others with whom we speak consider the mandate of COVID to be different from what the flu vaccine requires, because it has not existed for so long.
Amy, a seven-year-old nurse, says the warrant breaks her heart.
“I mean I’ll probably lose my job, I’ll probably be fired, and that’s very difficult because I love being there for my patients,” Amy said.
In a statement, LVHN said in part that “it is our responsibility to protect our colleagues and provide the safe care that people in our community expect and deserve. The most important step we can take to protect against VOCID -19 and the flu is vaccinating us. “
The other hospitals did not respond to our request for comment.
