Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has changed its rules for competitiveness players who have been banned for violations of Valve’s anti-cheating system. Previously, those the prohibitions were permanent; now, players who have been banned for VAC violations in the past can compete in Valve-sponsored events in specific circumstances.
In a post on CS: GO block earlier this week on the upcoming regional senior game rankings (RMR) season, Valve wrote it
To move forward, the VAC ban will only disqualify a player from an event if it was received less than 5 years in advance or if it was received at any time after their first participation in a Valve-sponsored event (e.g. , after participating in a qualifier for an RMR event). Please note that VAC bans remain in place with all other effects; the only change is how they influence your eligibility to play Valve-sponsored events.
Tthe reason for the change is that the previous rules of VAC “hadn’t seen any updates since the game was new and all CS: GO ACC bans were relatively recent. However, stroke prohibitions can be more than eight years old. So we decided to update them. “
TThe rule change particularly affects two prominent players. One is Elias “Jamppi”Olkkonen, who received an ACC ban in 2015 and sued Valve before jumping a Valuing. Olkkonen made a tweet on April 15th, “Officially … Not banned … Thank you CS: GO“.

Fans have also presented the case of Vinicius “VSM“Moreira, a Brazilian player which received a ban from ACC in 2014. VSM tweeted a photo of self uninstalling Valuing in response to the news. He then spread the “FreeVSM” tag on Twitter CS: GOannouncement of change.
Other sports organizers have changed their rules on stroke prohibitions in recent years. In 2017, the ESL changed its policies to allow players with VAC prohibitions over two years to participate in theirs CS: GO Events. That rule change was controversial.
In this case, fans al CS: GO reddit they seem satisfied with the decision. How a intelligently I summed it up, “Five years is enough to still have them [a] race at CS if he was just a silly kid and should be enough to say goodbye to competition CS if you were old enough to understand the repercussions and you did it anyway. “
