(CNN Español) – A reality that inspires fiction. That’s the theme of STX Entertainment’s “Songbird,” which premiered last Friday.
The film, starring Sofia Carson and KJ Apa, shows the world under the yoke of another pandemic, in this case the covid-23.
And contrary to what many may think, the production talks about love and how this visceral feeling leads you to make decisions that will change the course of the life of the person you appreciate most in your life.
“Songbird”: the plot
And precisely his personal experience with the coronavirus is something that inspired Carson to play his character, Sara Garcia.
“Everything that Sara was going through, all her children, her thoughts … It’s obviously a work of fiction in the future, she’s more at risk than us. But the fear existed, we are all afraid, all our thoughts are so confused, “the actress told Zona Pop CNN in an interview last week.
“I channeled all this into Sara and put my heart into her character. Everything we felt was so real, because we are living as people too. So it’s been an experience as amazing artists. Imitating life at the same time we live it “, he adds.
What was it like producing “Songbird” during the pandemic?
“Songbird” was shot in July in Los Angeles, during coronavirus restrictions something that led its production to adapt ways of working to reduce the risk of infection.
The tape was recorded with iPhones, GoPros and security cameras. There were no major costume or makeup changes and it contains a small team of people.
“The production created a new way of creating cinema, with extraordinary security protocols. It was a very limited set, for a production of Michael Bay it was almost like an independent tape ”.
Bay produced the film and is known for his work in films such as “The Transformers”, “Armageddon”, “A Quiet Place”, “The Purge”, among others.
Carson compares his experience in this shooting as performing live theater, something that enriches him, he adds, in his career.
The tape is available on video on demand, or VOD in English, through platforms such as Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV or Google Play. According to Variety magazine, “Songbird” will have a theatrical release in Japan.
