The Consumer Electronics Show 2021 kicked off today (virtually, of course) and during a video presentation, Sony revealed information about the release date on half a dozen games. But he did not announce these dates as you might expect. Instead, all the new information came from the text that appeared at the bottom of the screen just a few seconds in the middle of the video. But, good news: we have a month to launch the mysterious Square Enix Athia project.
The Sony video it covered a number of the company’s business, reviewing new products that the massive corporation plans to launch in the next year or two. New TVs, movies, etc. But in this video there are a few minutes devoted to the PlayStation 5 and Sony’s gaming division.
This segment, hosted by PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, was not very interesting, mainly focusing on what the company has done with the release of PS5 and the games released so far. But at the end of the segment, around 10:39, you can see the slide that includes a lot of new information about the upcoming PS5 games.
- Return – 21/03/21
- Pragmatic – 2023
- Solar ash – June 2021
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits – March 2021
- Stray & GhostWire: Tokyo – October 2021
- Little Devil Inside – July 2021
- Athia Project – January 2022
- Hitman 3 – January 2021
- Horizon: Forbidden West – 2021
Part of that is old information we already knew, I like Hitman 3release date. But there is some apparent news. As mentioned, we now have a launch window for Athia project, the new Square Enix game which will be PS5 exclusive for two years. If it comes out next January, that would mean Xbox X series gamers will have to wait at least until 2024 to play the still-mysterious game.
G / O Media may receive a commission
Deviated, the PS5 adventure starring a cat in a futuristic city of robots, looks set to arrive in October. We knew it would premiere in 2021, but this is the first mention of a month. Same with GhostWire: Tokyo, the spooky FPS from Tango Gameworks, which only had one vague release window for 2021. It also plans to come out in October.
Finally, Pragmatic, this strange Capcom game first unveiled during a new PS5 event June 2020, seems to have been delayed. It was scheduled to arrive in 2022, but will now arrive a year later based on information from the CES video.
The small print cast in the middle of a random video is a pretty weird way to basically announce a bunch of new PS5 release dates, and I hope these games and their respective studios will announce this news more officially with formal posts and trailers on Twitter. Meanwhile, I can’t wait for the next batch of PS5 games to be revealed at the end of a random pop-up ad or something.
