Sony’s large PS5 showcase easily outperforms the competition

Sony has had a PS5 showcase today. There new games were announced. He showed a few more pictures that he had already revealed. There were big name drops, the occasional bug, and a lot of CGI. In other words: a completely standard video game marketing event. However, in the context of last year under a pandemic, it was like watching a press event the times before.

One of the best role-playing games, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, caused a remake. God of War: Ragnarok got a real game and his name was finally confirmed. Insomniac, which has just released two huge games, revealed two more, a Wolverine game i Spider-Man 2 no less, the latter already has a launch window for 2023. And Square Enix Forspoken looks like Famous inside Final Fantasy XV. In addition to a lot of other games, such as This sci-fi platformer game about aliens expelling humans from Earth he stepped off the bench to provide extra support and intriguing vibes.

Will any of these games be good? Will they look like their trailers? Will they even come out when Sony says yes? I have no idea. But do you know what will probably be good? All that Insomniac is working on, at least considering his recent career. No wonder, as the Burbank-based studio will be out soon out of the rest of Sony.

Remember, Spider-Man: Miles Morales era very good. And now, that narrative team manages to take a crack at Logan, one of the few superheroes who hasn’t been completely empty and turned to dust in the last two decades of market saturation. Another gray white type video game? Sure, but only once, does it actually seem like a good idea. Naughty Dog, if you are working on a Nathan Drake 3.0, remove it immediately.

What I am saying is that it was a very good showcase in a weird year for games. Coming out of the rush to launch a new console in 2020, 2021 has experienced many delays as developers face the cumulative effects of the ongoing pandemic. Although it has not been a slow year for games: many amazing things came out this summer alone—It’s been a year off for the gaming industry’s marketing machine with a big budget. But Sony has managed to deliver some surprisingly satisfying advertising boosts, where others have struggled to find the vein.

E3 returned after a one-year hiatus. Remember the great showstoppers out there? Xbox introduced From Bethesda Starfield, but the teasers had nothing to write about. Nintendo promised more Nintendo games like WarioWare: Get it Together i Metroid Dread. Both are solid basics, but they’re not exactly showstoppers. Ubisoft revealed that it is doing the same more Nintendo games. He showed Square Enix Guardians of the galaxy. Elden ring he finally got it an official game trailer.

Then there was EA Play, which he announced the return of Dead space with a remake of the first game, Quakecon, which was shown ten years later, it’s not too late continue to release Skyrim, and Gamescom Opening Night, where the big news was a new Marvel game from XCOM developers. Most of these shows were well. Most of them might as well have it probably omitted.

Why did Sony succeed where? so many others have failed? Those extremely conventional Marvel licenses are sure to help. Insomniac was only acquired in 2019, a year after Microsoft continued to spend, and it doesn’t seem to have picked up the pace. This is not a hit against any of the good studios that make Xbox games. We just haven’t gotten to see much of it yet, and what has been tried from time to time has been a bit unfortunate. A new one Perfect Dark it will be cool, but those skyscrapers and sandstorms to the initial revelation it left me a little meh.

Metroid Dread it looks great, but it’s hard not to feel like Nintendo has a giant Breath of the Wild 2 release date announcement burning a hole in your pocket. Clearly he has kept his cards very close to his chest after covid-19 decelerations. Remember the Switch Pro? September Nintendo Direct when?

Much has been done, in the age of Nintendo Direct, of the emergence of specific showcases for publishers or developers that, in the past, could only be highlighted in a much larger event. Maybe even a simple blog post with a trailer. So far this year, Sony has managed to shine the most important focus of all, at least so far. Maybe the 2021 Game Awards will appear? What other superheroes are left?
