Source: Patrick Mahomes, head of QB of Kansas City, will be operated to fix the toes of the turf

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Patrick Mahomes is scheduled for surgery Wednesday for the turf injury that upset the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback at the end of the season and during the NFL playoffs, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Muhammad is expected to miss most of the off-season work with the team, but will be complete by workouts, according to a source.

Muhammad had one of the worst statistical games of his career in the Chiefs’ 31-9 Super Bowl LV loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was 26-of-49 for 270 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions and a score of 52.3. Kansas City didn’t get a touchdown for the first time since Muhammad became a starter in 2018.

But, as he pointed out shortly after the game, he played well with the tip of the turf in the AFC Championship Game victory over the Buffalo Bills.

“I can’t say the toe was a problem when I played two weeks ago and played well,” he said. “Whenever you play football, you have to fight for injuries.”

The NFL network first reported news of the surgery.
