Sources – Buffalo Bills OC Brian Daboll becomes the favorite to get the job of head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has become the favorite to get the Los Angeles Chargers head coach position, according to league sources.

Daboll is one of nine candidates he has interviewed for the job and the Chargers are planning the next steps in their process, which will be influenced by the outcome of Saturday night’s divisional match between Ravens and Bills.

If bills are lost, Daboll can meet with the Chargers whenever he wants and accept his job as head coach if offered. If they win the bills, the Chargers have to wait for Daboll to end the postseason before they negotiate.

Daboll would adapt to many of the traits the Chargers are looking for in their next coach. He’s an offensive coach, learning from some of the best coaches of all time and has helped elevate the game and production of Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Daboll was expected to do the same with Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert.

In addition, there is great familiarity. Daboll went to St. Buffalo Francis High School with Chargers general manager Tom Telesco. The two played on the same high school football team, with Daboll two degrees behind Telesco. Daboll was a tough security team and Telesco was a great receiver and corner.

From their time together in Buffalo, both men followed different paths. Daboll continued to learn his trade at the feet of Bill Belichick in New England and Nick Saban in Alabama before returning to Buffalo, where he has helped the Bills offense become one of the best in the league.

Telesco went from St. Francis to learn under former Colts general manager Bill Polian before reaching the job of Chargers general manager.

Now Daboll and Telesco could once again be partners on the opposite coast, in Los Angeles, still trying to win together.
