Sources: Kyrie Irving is not expected to meet with the Brooklyn Nets this week; The NBA hopes to review the videos without masks

While the NBA is reviewing videos circulating on social media of a maskless Kyrie Irving in what appears to be a family birthday party, it is not believed that the Brooklyn Network Guard will be part of the team again this week, sources told ESPN.

Irving has already been ruled out of his fourth straight game Tuesday night against Denver and sources say he is expected to at least miss Wednesday’s game against New York and Saturday’s game against Orlando. His absence has been attributed to personal reasons.

In the videos, which began to be widely shared Monday night, a smiling Irving dances with his sister Asia on a confetti-covered floor and claps as he blows out candles. If the video is found to be recent, this behavior could violate league coronavirus protocols.

The league’s COVID-19 guidelines forbid players from going to clubs, bars and venues. They also prohibit attending social gatherings of more than 15 people.

This investigation comes during a turbulent week as the league is evaluating its coronavirus safety and health standards. The league has postponed three games this week as positive tests of COVID-19 and forty contact follow-ups have been put together.

The NBA governing council is holding a special meeting on Tuesday, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The team’s general managers received a call on Monday focused on tightening protocols.

The NBA has investigated other safety and health violations this season. In December, BlackSportsOnline posted a video of James Harden partying, without a mask, allegedly at a Houston club’s Christmas party. After an investigation, the league fined the Houston Rockets star $ 50,000 and had to be quarantined for four days while returning negative COVID-19 tests.

Harden never missed a game.

If a player misses a match for a COVID-19 infraction, he would lose 1/72 of his salary, according to league rules.
