Quarterback trade talks across the league have already heated up and several teams have approached the New York Jets to express interest in negotiating for Sam Darnold, the No. 3 general election of 2018, for league sources .
The Jets have not turned down calls, by sources, but have also not made any final and firm decision on which direction they want or are prepared to go.
They could change Darnold, 23, use the compensation they get in exchange for another quarterback or draft a quarterback with the second overall selection. All options are being explored and are on the table, by a league source.
Contacted on Saturday, the Jets did not confirm they received any commercial calls to Darnold. However, other sources have said yes.
Looking back at last weekend’s first quarterback trade deal should give you an insight into Darnold’s potential market.
Teams that called Matthew Stafford, who moved from Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, included the Washington football team, the Indianapolis Colts, the Carolina Panthers, the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears and others.
The Jets are not yet ready to trade and are still exploring what is the best way forward for the organization. But with Stafford in Los Angeles and the Eagles approaching a deal with Carson Wentz, the Jets are not expected to be left behind in making their own quarterback decision that will have ramifications throughout the league.
