Spiders that produce massive exoduses amid massive flooding in Australia

It is becoming the biblical theme.

Spiders make a massive exodus amid widespread flooding in southeastern Australia.

Heavy rainfall last week has forced thousands of people to flee their homes in New South Wales, with hundreds more to be rescued from rising waters, officials said on Monday.

But people are not the only ones fleeing the floods: swarms of critters have also tried to reach dry land, according to videos and photos posted on social media.

Melanie Williams, of the city of Macksville, NSW, posted a clip on Facebook on Saturday showing hundreds of arachnids crawling through her garage door.

“Lots of spiders for the floods,” he wrote.

Another video, posted by TikTok user Shenea Varley over the weekend, showed spiders clinging to a fence as they struggled to escape the floodwaters moving below.

“There were also barks, ants, basically all the insects, crickets … trying to get away from the flood waters,” Varley told The Guardian Australia after a visit to western Sydney.

“My husband recorded it on video, because I didn’t get close to it,” she added. “When I was standing, I had spiders climbing up my legs.”

Matt Lovenfosse, a resident of Kinchela Creek, told CNN Tuesday that rain was still falling and flood waters were approaching his family’s home.

“In the morning it should be inside and the spiders will be all over the house,” he told the dam, adding, “the trees are full of snakes.”
