Did you have enough time to recover from Splatoon 3 fun after yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? Well, because we’re about to dive a little deeper.
With Splatoon 3 and Splatoon 2 released on the same system, it might seem like not much of a difference between the two, but early signs suggest the new entry will have several new twists that should keep series veterans more than intrigued.
Nintendo has shared a thread on Twitter reviewing some of the game’s more detailed details, acting on behalf of the “Squid Research Lab” and discussing the “video stream,” that is, the live trailer above. Here’s a breakdown of all the new information:
Splatsville and the Splatlands
“Here we see Splatsville, the newly discovered ‘city of chaos.’ It looks old-fashioned but looks densely populated. Research indicates that development in Splatsville has accelerated rapidly since the Splatfest Final a year and a half ago, though is far from Incopolis “.

“We have learned that Splatsville is located in a wider region called Splatlands. It seems that the intense sun and harsh environment have had a profound effect on its inhabitants. In recent years, the Inklings who have been trend-setting have been attracted to this culture like moths in Bunsen Burner! “
Game

“Even in Splatlands, the inklings seem to be dedicated to the popular pastime of the Turf War. The basic rules seem unchanged: two teams of four compete to ink the larger terrain. However, the people of Splatsville seem to have brought the its battles in the wild of nature! “
“In the Splatlands, inclines seem to favor entry to the battlefield by launching themselves out of some sort of aerial player drone. Looks like they can even choose their landing site before flying into action!”
“We’ve identified two new ways in which inclines can move. A ‘squid roll’ allows them to jump and spin their ink, and a ‘squid rise’ allows them to swim quickly through the ink-covered walls and jump headlong. just think how these skills could be used in battle … “
Personalization (and pets?)

“It’s no secret that Inklings and Octolings can arrange head tentacles in various ‘hairstyles.’ However, it seems that these wonderful creatures are capable of having more intricate designs than was previously known. Look at this Inkling … She has a braid. What a day for science. “
“In the new video broadcast, an Inkling is seen accompanied by a juvenile salmonid named Smallfry. Our studies have long shown that salmonids are a dangerous species. How this seemingly symbiotic relationship evolved is an exciting mystery. they require more research! “
Weapons, new and old

“We’ve also discovered a new bow-shaped weapon. At first glance, it looks a bit primitive, but on closer inspection, it’s full of technology, including a mechanism capable of launching three strings of ink simultaneously.”
“On the video broadcast, we also spotted some special weapons. In addition to a new one, some look like reconfigured versions of special weapons found in Inkopolis. That’s perfect for the city of chaos …”
“Classic main weapons seem viable in Splatlands, although their appearance seems to have evolved to suit this unique culture. The .96 Gal and the Range Blaster look markedly different from what we’re used to, which will apparently make them differentiate itself from other weapons of the same type. “
It looks like this 2022 launch window ages away, right?
