Splitgate, a competitive first-person sci-fi shooter that’s like a cross between Halo and Portal (see Vikki Blake’s Splitgate review for more information), would launch successfully in July on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. But 1047 Games delayed the release of Splitgate in August because the open beta was very popular.
He then announced that Splitgate would remain in open beta for the foreseeable future as it works to increase server capacity.
Splitgate saw more than 10 million downloads in less than 30 days and shot more than 175,000 simultaneous players in just a few weeks. It now has over 13 million downloads.
1047 Games said the funding means it can “develop its full vision for Splitgate as a top-tier and AAA competitive shooter and begin implementing the studio’s larger vision to consolidate itself as a leading creative force in ‘a different and inventive IP in the gaming space. “
The long-term vision is to “usher in an era of” new “classic games,” involving genres “where innovation has stopped today by providing new transformative captures in globally known and recognized game genres.”
Lightspeed Venture Partners is the lead investor, alongside global venture capital firm and venture capital firm New York-based Insight Partners, Anthos Capital and previous investors Galaxy Interactive, VGames, Human Capital, Lakestar, DraperDragon and Draper University.
