Spotify today announced its first hardware device, the “Car Thing,” which is a dashboard-mounted music and dashboard player. TechCrunch).
Spotify wants to provide a product for customers who want a “more fluid” and personalized car listening experience, especially in the large number of cars that do not support modern in-car entertainment systems.
The Car Thing is aimed at Spotify Premium subscribers who have these needs and features a touch screen, a navigation button, voice control features and four user-configurable buttons for quick access to areas such as favorite music, podcasts or playlists.
The user interface takes directions from the Spotify mobile app for users to get to know them and there is the option of touch controls, “Hey Spotify” voice commands or physical navigation using the remote. Car Car works via Bluetooth or via an AUX or USB cable, and there are a variety of mounts that include the device to make sure it fits properly on the dashboard.
The device includes three different types of dashboard and ventilation mounts to choose from, a car charger and a USB-C cable.
Initially, Car Caring will be available for free for a limited time, and selected users will only have to pay the shipping cost. Apparently, this is because Spotify still sees Car Car thing as a bit experimental.
When it comes to the full public release, Car Thing will be available for $ 79.99, but it’s still unclear when the retail launch will take place.
Car Thing is now offered by invitation only to US Spotify Premium subscribers with a smartphone, where interested users can sign up for the waiting list.
