How fatalities are reported by COVID-19
Not all deaths reported to the health department occur during the weekly reporting period. The Department of Health receives COVID-19 mortality reports from hospitals, long-term care centers or the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office. There is generally a delay from the date of death to the day they are notified, as circumstances are reviewed to ensure that COVID-19 is considered a substantial contributor to death. There are no defined deadlines for the duration of these reviews, as each circumstance is unique.
A new chart on the board reflects when a person died of COVID-19 in our community. These releases will continue to reflect the number of deaths reported to us on a weekly basis.
