Steelers lands the QB franchise on a new NFL network simulation project

The Pittsburgh Steelers could not pick a quarterback in the early 202nd NFL draft. Despite reports that Ben Roethlisberger will return to the team this season, the front office acknowledges that there needs to be a plan for his successor.

But former NFL general manager and current NFL network analyst Charlie Casserly has just achieved Steeler Nation’s hopes with his new one-round drill.

Casserly has four quarterbacks coming off the board in the first round, which is pretty common among NFL draft experts. It also causes the Steelers to select this fourth quarterback with the No. 24 overall selection. The spoiler here is that Casserly makes former Ohio State champion Justin Fields fall for that decision.

While the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger plan to continue their partnership, I don’t see the veteran playing much longer. In an impressive turn of events, Fields slides to No. 24 (obviously, it won’t be a surprise if he goes long before that) and Pittsburgh faces the opportunity to get a talented successor to Big Ben. Sitting behind a future Hall of Fame for a year is a prime spot for the Ohio state perspective.

This type of scenario is a complete thought. I won’t rule out Fields being the third or even fourth quarterback off the board, given the difference between the two perspectives. Certainly, there are teams where Fields is not the best scheme. That said, if Fields falls out of the Top 10, there will be a lot of teams looking to climb it and Pittsburgh could be one of them.
