Apparently, Steven Matz has no feeling the New York Mets changed him to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.
“I will always thank the Mets for the opportunity to play with my hometown team,” Matz said. tweeted Thursday in a farewell message. “Thanks to Mets fans for all your support during my time in New York. And thanks to all my teammates and coaches – I wish you nothing more than the best of luck in advance! ”
Matz, 29, was sent to the Blue Jays for three minor league pitching prospects. Earlier this season, Matz secured a $ 5.2 million contract, but became expendable with the Mets ’recent pitching additions, which included another left-hander, Joey Lucchesi of the Padres.
Matz also said he is looking forward to joining the Blue Jays and believes they can be an aspirant in the AL East.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join @BlueJays and one of the most exciting teams in the game!” Matz tweeted. “I’m happy to do my part to help this team get back to the playoffs and you’ll get everything I have!”
The Mets, looking to replenish their farming system, acquired three possible contracts: right-handed pitchers Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diaz and Josh Winckowski. Diaz was the group’s highest prospect, ranking 26th in Toronto’s agricultural system, according to MLB Pipeline.
