NBC Connecticut meteorologists have issued an early warning for a wind-swept rainstorm that will arrive on Christmas Eve and continue until Christmas Day.
A strong wind warning has been issued for much of Connecticut. Statewide flood surveillance has also been issued.
Winds will start to pick up throughout the day on December 24 with some scattered showers in the afternoon and into the evening.
The strong storm system will lead to heavy rain and potentially harmful winds. The weather will really increase after midnight. The heaviest rain will fall during the night on Christmas night and decrease on Christmas morning. At eight or nine in the morning, the worst is over.

The low pressure area will be cut off west of Connecticut, which means we will be on the warm side of the storm. Temperatures will be in the mid-50s for Christmas Eve and low for the 60s.
The main concern of this storm is the threat of harmful winds. Some of our computer guides suggest that winds could drop more than 50 mph in the early hours of Christmas morning, which could lead to power outages.
With the opportunity for strong winds and possible blackouts, our First Alert Weather team encourages residents to:
- Make sure or remove holiday decorations
- Make sure the devices are charged
- Check your generator
- Clean the drainage areas
In addition to wind, heavy rains are another concern. It looks like more than 2 inches of rain may be falling in some parts of Connecticut. We will also see that the snow melts quickly, so there may be minor flooding. With warm temperatures, snow will not be a problem with this storm.

The skies will clear up over the weekend with a nice sunny Saturday and Sunday with lower temperatures in the 1930s.

The chances of power outages are largely isolated in most of the state, as with the winter season there are no leaves on the trees causing the same shutdown problems as during the summer months.
Before the storm, today it will be quite calm with a mixture of sun and clouds and cool temperatures.
Expect a very foggy Christmas morning!
