Subaru Forester fans have something to look forward to in 2022. The brand has given the model one update with the big news the addition of a Wilderness cut to the lineup.

The update is subtle. The entire front façade of the Forester, including the grille and headlights, is being reworked. Its roof rails have been redesigned and all accessories come standard with the Subaru driver assistance technology package called EyeSight. One interesting thing to note about EyeSight in the Wilderness trim is its calibration. Our own Adam Ismail got to know the Subester Forester Wilderness up close event recently and they were informed that Subaru owners had lifted their own vehicles, which wrapped up with the EyeSight viewing angle. EyeSight on the Wilderness has been calibrated to fit your elevation, so there will be no problems.

All models continue to be powered by the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. This engine mates with the brand’s Lineartronic CVT, which may or may not be a good thing. And it wouldn’t be a Subaru without standard symmetrical all-wheel drive.

The big news is the Wilderness finishes, which are on two levels from the top of the line in the six-cut range. Like its cousin Outback Wilderness, Subaru describes the Forester Wilderness as the “most resilient and walking Forester in history.” What makes it so resilient? Well, first you’ll notice the design differences:

To visually communicate the most capable off-road performance, the Forester Wilderness adds an exclusive style with a new front fascia with a bold hexagonal grille, larger wheel arch lining, non-slip plate, unique hexagonal LED fog lights and a hood tag antireflex in matte black finish.

As for the sturdy parts, they include Yokohama GEOLANDAR all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, a 9.2-inch ground clearance that Subaru says is half an inch longer than a standard Forester, and larger coil springs and shock absorbers. Inside are special water-resistant seats and a more durable roof frame that can hold up to 800 pounds when the vehicle is parked.

Prices for the 2022 Forester start at $ 25,195 for the base model and reach $ 35,295 for the Touring. The Wilderness starts at $ 32,820. In 2022 Forester hits distributors in October.
