Super Mario 3D World prevents the resurgence of FIFA Graphics in UK boxes

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is number 1 for the second week in a row.

The Nintendo Switch exclusive fell in sales by 61% compared to the previous week, which is a solid result for a game from its second week on the charts. The Wii U remaster is comfortably the best-selling new game of the year (so far).

It withstands tough competition from FIFA 21, which enjoyed another boost in sales thanks to its recent price reduction. Game box sales rose 140% last week and this week has risen 59% more.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe also appears. Last week a normal Switch bag was missing from the market, with only package options available, of which Mario Kart was a highlight. The game increased 19% in sales and goes from number 5 to number 3.

That means Animal Crossing: New Horizons drops to No. 4, the lowest position we’ve had this year, with a 4% drop in weekday sales.

They complete the top five: Call of Duty: Black Ops, the Cold War, which actually won a spot despite sales falling 9% on weekdays.

There is a real lack of games over the next two months, with a handful of Switch versions and not much else. Bravely Default 2 on Switch comes out next week, while Monster Hunter: Rise arrives in late March. The first really big PS5 and Xbox series games of the year don’t arrive until May, with Returnal, Resident Evil: Village and Deathloop the first featured games.

As a result, we can expect this retail physical chart to be strongly influenced by the price discount and the arrival of new console stocks for the top three platforms.

Here’s GfK’s Top Ten for the week ending February 20:
