A prominent member of the industry has shared new inside information regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, revealing some details about DLC and a cropped character. The information comes from former Gamer Informer editor and current Kinda Funny Games host Imran Khan, who recently shared some ideas and secrets about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players in the Reset era. The highlight of this information is one of the recent characters in the game’s DLC, Byleth, the protagonist of Fire emblem: three houses, and a character who, according to Khan, features a movement game based on another character that was canceled.
Unfortunately, Khan does not disclose who this character is, but notes that they were canceled after negotiations to appear in the game ended. In addition, Khan closed speculation about a Monster Hunter character who comes into the game as the developer behind the game is, or at least has been, dead against his characters who cross paths with other games. In other words, if you were expecting one Monster Hunter character that will be added with the few remaining DLC slots, you can probably stop crossing your fingers.
Khan did not stop here. Returning to Byleth, he points out that it was originally assumed that the character was part of the main list of the game. In other words, they were not a substitute for the aforementioned cut character. Rather, it happened to work that way.
Finally, Khan points out that part of the appeal of Min Min was added, as DLC was that he was a Nintendo character and therefore easier to add than a guest character. Meanwhile, Sephiroth was cheaper than it normally would be because Square Enix was eager to get the deal done, which may explain why we got a second Final Fantasy character before so many other highly sought-after characters from unrepresented series.
Of course, like all the information of the unofficial and filtered variety, everything here should be taken with a large grain of salt. While Khan is reliable, nothing unofficial here and certainly some of them are tied to some speculation.
At the time of publication, Nintendo and no other parties involved have commented on any of the above information. That probably won’t change, but if it does, we’ll be sure to update the story with everything that’s provided, highlighted or not. In the meantime, for more coverage Super Smash Bros.
