Consumer Insights noticed a sharp increase last year in Switch owners who have no other console
Nintendo is expanding the console market with the Switch, just as it did with the Wii, according to a new report from the agency Interpret Insights.
According to Interpreter’s quarterly New Media Measure survey of 9,000 U.S. consumers, by 2020 there was a significant jump in the number of Switch owners without any other gaming console in their home.
Last year, 25% of Switch owners reported not owning any other consoles, more than doubling the 12% of 2019 respondents who had a Switch but nothing more.
The Switch also gained strength as a second console option, as the number of people who reported owning another console in addition to the Switch went from 25% in 2019 to 35% last year.
“We can deduce from this that Nintendo has been expanding the overall pie of the console (just as it did with the original Wii) as new console gamers enter the market,” Interpret said.
