Almost all non-vaccine-related 2021 innovation has been related to fast-food-chicken-sandwich. KFC started the year with a able riff on the internet breaking Popeyes chicken sandwich. Boston Market’s own discovery was less than impressive. Wendy Jalapeno Popper chicken sandwich, a little not sequitur in the crunchy area of the chickens, was medium. But now, Taco Bell has entered an ad that could turn some tired chicken heads: the Crispy chicken sandwich taco you will soon arrive at a Taco Bell near you.
“Is this delicious and disturbing new item a sandwich or a tac?” reads a press release sent to Takeaway food. “Well, it’s a sandwich and a tac. And it doesn’t have to be said that it’s so delicious. ” Fair enough.
The Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco only has 3-4 items, so at least Taco Bell is trying to keep things simple with its new hybrid concept. It starts with a piece of “top quality white meat crispy chicken, marinated in jalapeño buttermilk, then seasoned with bold Mexican spices and rolled into a crunchy tortilla coating.” A promising start. This chicken is then served in what Taco Bell only describes as “a swollen bread, shaped like an iconic taco.” Intriguing! It’s all topped off with a “tasty creamy chipotle sauce”. Customers can order a regular and spicy version, the latter with pickled jalapeño slices. Dare we say that? Sounds a little good. Taco Bell has found its own side door to fast food chicken sandwich wars, and though not Mexican pizza, the Taco Sandwich can end up surprising us all.
Starting March 11, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco will only be available in two test markets: Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina. The nationwide launch will take place sometime “later this year”. If any of our readers manage to catch one during the testing phase, tell us everything. I want to know how the “inflated bread in the shape of an iconic taco” tastes like.
