Taco Bell has started trying its own meat alternative, giving its vegetarian customers another reason to return to their restaurants.

The Yum Brands previously hesitated to add herbal meat to their menu, citing the variety of vegetarian options, such as potatoes and beans, which are already available as substitutes. In January, he changed course and announced that this year he would try an alternative to Beyond Meat.

But first, customers will be able to try the plant-based option of Taco Bell, made in the chain’s test kitchen. His Taco Cravetari, a vegetarian version of the Crunchy Taco Supreme, includes a meat substitute made from a mixture of peas and chickpeas. The taco also includes crushed cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream in a crispy shell.

At the moment, Taco Cravetari is only available at one Taco Bell location in Tustin, California. The chain plans to test the article until April 29. Guests can also change the meat alternative for other menu items, such as burritos or chalupas, at no extra cost.

Shares of Yum, which also owns KFC and Pizza Hut, have risen 44% over the past year, giving the company a market value of $ 35.1 billion. Yum is expected to report its first-quarter earnings on April 28th. The Mexican-inspired chain has largely recovered from the coronavirus pandemic, but continues to lose sales at night and in the morning when consumers stay home.
