Tarrant County Public Health reported 3,361 additional COVID-19 cases on Saturday with 18 more deaths. The number of cases represented a maximum of one day for the county, counting only the data processed on Thursday.
Information from Jan. 1 to 1 will be released Sunday, a health department spokesman confirmed.
Dallas County also recorded a one-day high Saturday.
County health department data indicates that of the additional cases reported Saturday, 2,865 cases are confirmed, while the other 496 are likely.
The county did not report cases Friday because of the New Year holidays.
The 18 additional deaths reported on Saturday bring the total to 1,512 coronavirus-related deaths in Tarrant County.
The deaths included a Fort Worth woman at age 90; four men in their eighties from North Richland Hills, Arlington, Mansfield, and Grand Prairie; five men and two women in their 70s from North Richland Hills, Mansfield, Sanson Park, Fort Worth, Arlington, Haltom City and Azle; a 60-year-old Arlington man and woman; a fifty-year-old Arlington man and woman; a Fort Worth man in his 40s; and a Fort Worth man who was about thirty years of age.
According to the health department, all but one had underlying health conditions.
The county began reporting both probable and confirmed cases in August at the request of the state health department. Probable cases, according to the county, explain various real-world situations and could reveal community cases that might not otherwise be reported. To date, the county has reported 134,011 confirmed cases of the virus and 19,354 probable cases for a total of 153,365 cases.
The county also reports another 1,366 estimated recoveries, bringing the total number of survivors to 110,335.
Of the county’s cases, 71% of the dead were over 65 years old. Those aged 25 to 44 have the highest percentage of people with COVID-19, at 36%.
According to the Tarrant County Public Health Dashboard COVID-19, as of Friday, adult ICUs had a capacity of 99% and the total bed occupancy rate of all county hospital beds it was 87%.
The health department reported that 1,399 COVID-19 patients are currently occupying hospital beds in the county as of Thursday. One month ago, on December 1, 884 COVID-19 patients occupied hospital beds in Tarrant County.
