Arik Gilbert returns to the market after announcing that he would re-enter the transfer portal on Sunday.
Gilbert entered the transfer portal while enrolled at LSU and finally chose Florida as his next destination on January 31st. Four weeks later, Gilbert took to Twitter to say he was reversing that decision and would not sign up for the Gators.
“I’ve decided to disassemble from the University of Florida and re-enter the portal,” Gilbert tweeted. “I will not announce my final decision until I am enrolled in school and on campus.”
Gilbert was the No. 6, five-star recruit in the 2020 class and played eight games as a true freshman last season. He represented 368 receiving yards and two touchdowns, but opted for the rest of the season on December 9th.
By the time Gilbert retired, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said he expected Gilbert to return with the program. But Gilbert never played against the Tigers again and announced his intention to transfer almost a month later.
The Gators still have two 2021 class ESPN 300 signers Gage Wilcox and Nick Elksnis; they also have Kemore Gamble, Keon Zipperer and Jonathan Odom on the list.
Florida wants to replace Kyle Pitts, who led the team to receive touchdowns.
