Golf with your friends it was a hit with the players last year. Although we didn’t have the strongest opinions, giving it 6/10 stars, we thought it was a decent multiplayer minigolf game, even though it suffered from fictitious controls. It has obviously been a success for Team17 publishers, who have now bought the rights and assets of the game from developer Blacklight Interactive for £ 12 million.
The purchase of Golf With Your Friends will be split into two segments, which will consist of an initial payment of £ 9 million, followed by £ 3 million after 12 months. Speaking of this directly, Team17 revealed plans to “create additional opportunities to extend the life cycle of the existing game.” This includes an additional DLC, with a possible sequel that is also being studied.
During this announcement, Team17 also shared its financial results for 2020, reporting that these have been “above expectations” and witnessed a 34% increase.
Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick said this about the news:
We are excited to start 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and that we see great potential in this IP. Over the past two years, GWYF has demonstrated strong consumer demand and mass market appeal, doubling its owner base and achieving success across multiple gaming platforms.
GWYF is the type of IP we believe is right for the property, it is successful and proven, but it is still at the beginning of its journey. The Blacklight Interactive team can be assured that we will take great care of this amazing IP.
It remains to be seen what 2021 will bring to Team 17, but we are sure to be delighted to see what they have planned.
