The Republican senator traveled to Mexico while voters in the state he represents are dying of cold and suffering from one of the worst energy crises in its history.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was photographed before boarding a plane to Cancun on Wednesday, while voters in his state are left without electricity, heating and drinking water due to the damage left by a powerful winter storm.
“The photos speak for themselves,” a Republican Party source said.
It has just been confirmed @SenTedCruz and his family flew tonight to Cancun for a few days at a resort they have visited before. Cruz seems to believe there isn’t much to do in Texas for the millions of jeans that run out of electricity / water and literally freeze. pic.twitter.com/6nPiVWtdxe

Creu, who traveled with his wife, Heidi, and their two daughters, completely ignored the recommendations he had made to the jeans. “We could see 100 people lose their lives this week in Texas. So don’t risk it. Keep your family safe,” the senator said.
The senator’s trip sparked instant criticism from Democratic Party representatives. Minneapolis representative Ilhan Omar noted that after the uprisings over the death of George Floyd, his office conducted food collection campaigns and donated more than 20 tons of food to his community. “Meanwhile, when millions of jeans lack electricity, heating and food, Ted Cruz heads to Cancun,” he retorted.
The political cost to Cruz and to Republicans can be enormous. As the senator went on vacation, Beto O’Rourke, who competed for the Cross seat in 2018 and lost by less than 200,000 votes, held a massive event on Wednesday to raise funds to help to the elderly in the midst of the crisis in Texas. While no Senate seats will be played in the 2022 election, Republicans must defend the post of Governor Greg Abbott, who is running for a third term. The current crisis and Cross actions, in addition to O’Rourke’s constant activism, could lead to Democrats taking the lead in this historic Republican stronghold.

Cruz’s communications office has not responded to controversy over the senator’s photographs heading to Cancun. NBC reporter Jake Sherman suggests that Cruz, after the controversy over his trip became known, could be back in Texas in the afternoon.
Texas is facing one of the worst energy crises in its history after the passage of a powerful winter storm. Power companies had to make partial cuts since last weekend to prevent the system from overheating due to peak demand.
Depending on the place Poweroutage.us, Which accounts for power outages in the United States, more than 674,000 subscribers in Texas were left without power on Thursday morning. The energy shortage was aggravated by the closure of several gas power plants and wind turbines due to the climatic situation.
In addition, millions of Houston residents suffered a severe loss of water pressure, so authorities urged it to boil before taking it or using it for cooking.
The anguish was visible in the Lakewood church in Houston, where many took refuge to escape the cold. David Hernandez, 38, spent the night there after his vehicle broke down. “I was trying to sleep on the spot, but it was too cold. All the liquids froze, so it was like sleeping in a freezer,” he said. “I had to come here. I had no choice.”
