Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is trying to take advantage of the conservative fashion “cancellation culture” by signing and selling hundreds of copies of a children’s book he didn’t write.
Cruz, through fundraising emails and Facebook ads, this week asked supporters to earn $ 60 or more to get a copy of Dr. Cruz’s “Green Eggs and Ham.” Seuss that he himself had autographed. Copies are sold on Amazon for $ 4.79.
“Stand by Ted and Dr. Seuss against the crowd of canceling culture to claim your signed copy Green eggs and ham! ”The politician urged on his donation page:
“Right now, the far left is trying to ‘CANCEL’ Dr. Seuss,” Cruz said in a paid Facebook ad. “As someone who has always been a big fan of Green Eggs and Ham, I won’t leave anything out,” he wrote. “So please rush an urgent $ 60 contribution and I’ll sign a copy of Green, Eggs and Ham for you
In an email, Cruz boasted Thursday to sign “175 more copies” because “the response has been HUGE.” He described the book he signed as “collecting the cancel culture.”
Cruz’s fundraiser follows this month’s decision by Dr. Seuss to withdraw six books from Dr. Seuss that contained racist and obsolete images.
“Green Eggs and Ham,” which Cruz read in the Senate in 2013 to favor then-President Barack Obama’s health care law, was not one of the books withdrawn from circulation.
But that hasn’t stopped Fox News’s top Republicans and personalities from using the book as a false point of attraction in their cultural wars, falsely linking the decision to President Joe Biden and Democrats.
Cruz himself baffled many with one of these online posts.
Random House Children’s Books did not respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
Critics on Twitter, however, reminded Cruz of his rhetoric that helped animate the U.S. Capitol riots and his misguided vacation in Cancun during a winter power and water crisis in Texas.
