In the second accidental death of a teenage lifeguard working off the coast of Jersey in just over a week, lightning struck Keith Pinto, 19, on Monday afternoon. According to witnesses News 12 New Jersey that the bolt apparently came out of nowhere on Monday afternoon. “It looked a little cloudy in one direction, but clear like anything else,” said one local journalist, “it was the first lightning of the day.” Some nearby beaches had been cleaned up (it’s still unclear why, as no storms were recorded in the immediate area), but Pinto’s was not. According to reports, the force of the strike threw him out of his chair. Emergency officers were unable to revive the teen. Four other guards and four beach residents were also affected by the strike and were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. The rescuer’s support remains overturned, now surrounded by flowers and handwritten notes.
