News anchor Eduardo del Willer died Sunday after a brave and public battle with brain cancer, the Telemundo station WNJU announced.
Dell Willer, 51, of Bergen County, New Jersey, died next to his wife Carolina and family.
Dell Willer joined the Spanish Language Center in 2017, serving the New York and New Jersey area, after working at the headquarters of the Telemundo Network in Miami. Originally from Mexico, he worked in radio and print before joining the network in 2013.
Christina Schwartz, president and general manager of WNJU, described her as a “talented journalist” and a “talented storyteller with a glowing smile on screen”, according to a WNBC report.
“We were amazed that he fought the incurable disease with remarkable determination; he must push himself to the limit and return to the air throughout his treatment, to be positive and enthusiastic,” Swarz said.
Dell Willer co-hosted the 6pm and 11pm newscasts of “Noticio 47 Telemundo” until his departure for health reasons in August.
“He was our inspiration and we loved him,” Schwartz said. “Our station family mourns Eduardo’s mother, her siblings, his wife Carolina and his beloved daughter Dana.”
