Texas COVID-19 in children: Galveston County reports first pediatric coronavirus death

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) – Galveston County reports its first pediatric death from COVID-19.

According to one announcement made by the county health district on Thursday, the girl was ten years old or younger.

He died of the virus on Tuesday, September 7th. It is unclear if the girl had any underlying illness.

Health officials said this is the first COVID-related death of someone who was young in Galveston County.

The girl was a student at a school in Galveston County, although county health officials said they do not believe she contracted the virus on campus.

According to Dr. Philip Keizer, Galveston County Health Authority, the girl was in pre-infant age.

The death of the girl will be communicated to the coronavirus board of the health district along with Friday’s case update.
That comes almost three weeks later the city of Houston reported its first pediatric death by COVID without underlying health conditions.

The Houston boy, who was between 10 and 19 years old, was not vaccinated, the city reported. He died in late July at a Houston hospital.

The city said that while it tested positive for the virus, it is unknown if it was infected with a COVID variant.
