Texas quickly faced a 14-0 lead after Bijan Robinson hit twice at the start with an eight-yard stop and a 14-yard catch at screen rate. The Longhorns would start the second half with a long run from Bijan once again. He ran 66 yards to place the Longhorns in a great position. Casey Thompson finds Joshua Moore throwing the touchdown from the 13-yard line. Texas would go up 24-10. Sam Ehlinger was ruled out of the rest of the match with a shoulder injury.
As the Longhorns get the ball back, Thompson comes out with guns. He led the offense to a second consecutive touchdown pass against Moore to extend the lead to 31-10 with 8:00 left in the third quarter. He is putting his stamp on the 2021 quarterback battle ahead of the actual competition as we await what Sam Ehlinger will do.
The offense began humming with Thompson as the quarterback of the game. In their third set of the game, it took them to a third straight win with another field goal from Cameron Dicker to extend the lead to 24 points. Colorado backup Brenden Lewis was able to get some big chunks that included a 42-yard run to set up another Jarek Broussard touchdown test between the two. The conversion failed to hold a three-point game, 34-16.
As the game progressed to the fourth quarter, Thompson and Robinson put their stamp on the game. Robinson got a pass from the quarterback and missed 23 yards for his third touchdown of the game. In his next drive, Thompson hit first-year Kelvontay Dixon across the field to get a catch and a 73-yard run. Texas led 48-23 at the time.
Hudson Card would get some snapshots in the last 10 minutes of the match. After Colorado recovered the ball, the defense forced a fight from DeMarvion Overshown. On the next play, Roschon Johnson made an incredible run after forcing four lost tackles to run it 21 yards to make another touchdown test.
The Longhorns set a school record of points in a game of bowling with 55, beating the 2007 Holiday Bowl record of 52 points. Casey Thompson tied an Alamo Bowl record with four touchdown passes in essentially a quarter of the game.
