Texas mayor stops smoking and calls residents “lazy” amid power outages

A Texas mayor has given up on controversial social media posts that lazily called on his constituents to complain about power outages, according to a report.

Colorado City Mayor Tom Boyd announced his resignation Tuesday hours after receiving a backlash over his long-running dispute on Facebook, according to KTXS-TV.

“No one owes anything to you or your family; nor is it the responsibility of local governments to support you during such difficult times as this. Sinking or swimming is your choice! He wrote. “The city and county, along with energy suppliers or any other service don’t owe you anything.”

“If you don’t have water, you have to try and think outside the box to survive and supply water to your family,” he added. “If you were sitting at home in the cold because you have no power and you are sitting there waiting for someone to come to your rescue because your laziness is the direct result of your upbringing!”

“I am sorry to have been dealing without electricity and water; Yes! But I will condemn myself if I provide someone capable of doing it themselves. Boyd continued in office. “In short, stop crying and look for a pamphlet! Get off your ass and take care of your own family!”

Later, in a separate place, Boyd apologized saying he was quitting his job as mayor and would not run for re-election.

“I would never want to hurt the elderly or anyone who needs help to let themselves be defended,” the former mayor wrote. “I was just saying that those people who are too lazy to stand up and defend themselves, but who are capable, should not be given a document. Sorry for the wording and some of the sentences that s ‘they used to!’

Texas has faced a bitter winter explosion that has left millions of residents in the Lone Star State powerless.
