The right to abortion has been taken away from millions of jeans while they slept. One of the country’s most restrictive abortion bills went into effect at midnight after the U.S. Supreme Court failed to take action on an emergency appeal by abortion providers. The bill bans abortion as early as six weeks of pregnancy (before many women know they are pregnant) and allows private citizens to sue providers or anyone who helps a woman have an abortion after six weeks. In fact, it prohibits at least 85% of abortions from occurring in the state. The American Civil Liberties Union he reacted furiously to day-to-day development, describing it as “a catastrophe of racial and economic justice” that will cut off access to millions for abortion. He added: “This ban on abortion is blatantly unconstitutional. We will not stop fighting until it is blocked.”
