When it comes to the big debate between iOS and Android, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates knows which side he’s on.
According to 9to5Google, Gates shared his preferences in a recent audio-only interview using the Clubhouse app. Perhaps not surprisingly, it is firmly equipped with Android.
Gates told journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin and Clubhouse co-founder Paul Davidson that after proclaiming that he preferred Android in the past, nothing has changed. While you have an iPhone on hand in case you want to use it for any reason (such as using the exclusive Clubhouse for iPhone), you do have a daily Android device.
Clubhouse is an application that allows you to chat with audio only. The social network resembles a massive series of podcast-type conversations. At this time, it is currently an invitation only and only iPhone users can participate.
Gates prefers the more open nature of the Android ecosystem, as it is more “flexible” about how the software interface with the operating system.
“I actually use an Android phone,” Gates told Sorkin. “Because I want to keep track of everything, I’ll often play with iPhones, but what I carry is Android. Some of the Android makers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easier for me. They’re more flexible about how “the software connects to the operating system. That’s why I got used to it. You know, a lot of my friends have ‘iPhone’, so there’s no purity.”
In 2019, Gates admitted that his way of managing Microsoft’s own mobile division was his “biggest mistake.” Microsoft ended up letting Google transform Android into the only real rival for the iPhone. Microsoft lost a $ 400 billion market at the time, which Gates deeply regrets. In 2017, however, it went ahead and adopted an Android phone.
During the interview, Davidson indicated that an Android version of Clubhouse could be on its way. He called it a “main feature,” which could mean the iPhone Clubhouse could soon dissipate.
