According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers have restructured the Weston Richburg center contract, creating $ 6.875 billion in salary cap space. Rapoport adds that the offensive line offensive veteran is likely to retire.

The move gives the 49ers about $ 32 million in salary cap, according to OverTheCap.com. Of course, this is not fractured in the two-year, $ 10.1 million agreement recently agreed by cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, as the structure of that contract is not yet known.

San Francisco initially signed Richburg on a five-year, $ 47.5 million contract on March 14, 2018, and began 15 games in his first season with the team. The center suffered a rotating patellar tendon during week 14 of the 2019 season, landed on the injured reserve and lost the final straight of the 49ers Super Bowl race.

Richburg started the 2020 season on the reserve list / physically unable to perform and did not appear in any games. He has had several surgeries since the injury. In addition to having knee surgery, he had shoulder surgery, which was credited for his reversal in 2020. More recently, he underwent hip surgery.

This is the second time the 49ers have restructured Richburg’s contract to create maximum space. The team did it before in December 2019.
