The all-civilian crew led by an Easton billionaire takes to space; 2 former WFMZ employees play a role in the mission Lehigh Valley regional news

EASTON, Pa. – The latest release of SpaceX is being led and funded by Jared Isaacman, Easton resident, billionaire and pilot.

Its four-person Inspiration4 crew, all civilians, will have a three-day orbit and an earthly goal of raising $ 200 million for St. John’s Children’s Hospital. Jude.

Issacman told us about the mission in February.

“You can’t make all the big advances in space and try to explore new worlds without trying to conquer some of the real problems we have on Earth today,” Isaacman said at the time.

Former WFMZ engineer George Motter helps bring the crew out of the planet. In 1986, he fixed the station’s first live shot. He is now a senior manager of ground segment communications and launch at SpaceX.

As NASA’s launch meteorological officer, former WFMZ meteorologist Brian Cizek helps predict the explosion and return weather conditions to the Kennedy Space Center.

The spacecraft successfully exploded at 8:02 p.m. Thursday, and the crew is already in orbit around Earth.

Martin Guitar provides the cosmic soundtrack, as it features a unique ukulele requested by SpaceX.

“Do the people of Florida know how vital Lehigh Valley is in this role?” I asked.

“If they don’t, they should,” Cizek said.

“It’s amazing and especially with the WFMZ connection, with some helpful help. It’s really great and I hope the people of Florida are aware of the Lehigh Valley connection,” Cizek said.
