In the background: The release of iOS 14 is very confusing. Mobile operating systems, in general, are issued with multiple errors. However, Apple’s recent redesign has a number of annoying issues for users, from constantly resetting the default mail app to quickly draining batteries when not in use.
A few days ago, several iPhone 12 users complained that there was an error in Apple’s own SMS application messages, according to Macromars. Users reported that some incoming texts are occasionally dropped in single and group conversations and are not pushed by announcements of new texts.
Initial reports seemed to indicate that the issue was isolated only for the iPhone 12 and News app, but that did not seem to be the case. There have been numerous complaints in the Apple Support Forum from users who experience bugs on any iPhone model updated to iOS 14. It seems to be present in other applications including Signal and WhatsApp. So it seems to be a stumbling block in iOS 14 rather than the iPhone 12 or the Messages app.
As of this writing, more than 5,600 users have flooded Apple with the same problem.
Many have tried different solutions on the advice of their own and Apple support. Users tried to restart the device, completely reset it and change the settings on other Apple devices that could receive messages via iCloud, but to no avail.
So far, Apple has been quiet about the bug. However, the support technologies told users individually that “the engineering team wanted to reflect on the problem and then run the diagnoses”. So Apple seems to be aware of the situation, but it is not clear how long it will take for developers to come up with a solution.
The update to iOS version 14.2.1 fixes some previously announced MMS messaging issues, but the SMS bug appears to be unrelated. Locals have had iOS 14.3 for a while now, but said there was a problem with the beta. So in the next update it may not get a solution, which will develop in a few days.
