Along with an increase in size for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7, which is rumored to have larger sizes of 41mm and 45mm, Apple plans to include new watch faces that take advantage of larger screens.
In the latest issue of his “Power On” newsletter, From Bloomberg Mark Gurman has put his weight behind recent rumors suggesting that thanks to smaller bezels and a flat-cut design, the upcoming Apple Watch will have larger case sizes.
Compared to the current 40 and 44 mm sizes, the 7 Series will be offered in 41 and 45 mm variants. Gurman says Apple plans to make real estate ownership of the larger screen worthwhile by bundling it with new Apple Watch faces that use the larger screens.
This year’s watches will come in sizes 41 and 45 millimeters, 40 to 44 millimeters. I’m told that Apple will group several new clock faces to take advantage of the larger screen, including an updated Infograph modular face. This will be the second time in Apple Watch history that the company has increased the screen size, after the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2017.
The new Apple Watch faces will be exclusive to the 7 Series and will likely not be available through a software update for previous models.
In addition to cosmetic changes, the Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to include improved performance and battery life. The Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to be unveiled at a fully digital Apple event in September alongside the iPhone 13. Learn more about what we expect this fall through our guide.
