I don’t know if it qualifies as my favorite app of the year, but it’s definitely the most 2020 app I’ve used this year. Cardiio measures heart rate and I am concerned to announce that I have used it every day for the past few months, usually more than once a day. You may feel, like me, that this has been the kind of year that causes the anxious heart and even causes a panic attack or three. When my heart makes me feel like I’m coming out of my chest, I find it useful to check reality (okay, 78 is higher than my normal, but it’s not “high” in the sense of “let’s go to the emergency room”) while taking a break from all that stresses me out.

It’s sad that checking the pulse has become my relaxation technique, but let’s be honest, much of this year has been sad. You can upgrade to find out details like “potential life expectancy” based on your average heart rate, but right now it seems like a big hubrisity. “Alice Bradley, editor-in-chief.”
