SPRINGFIELD, Mo (KY3) – The Springfield-Greene County Department of Health reports that the average age of COVID-19 victims dropped to 62 in August compared to the previous low of 66 in July .
The youngest victim was about twenty years old. the oldest was about 80 years old.
“The increase in the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths of people of all ages are unfortunate results for so many who choose not to get vaccinated,” said Katie Towns, director of health. “Until more people in our community look for vaccine, more people will experience serious illnesses from this virus, especially as we enter the fall and winter months.”
The Greene County vaccination rate is 47%, while the national vaccination rate is 61.2% for people over 12 years of age. On Aug. 6, Greene County went halfway, with 50 percent of residents 12 and older receiving at least one dose of two-dose vaccine. As of August 31, nearly 53% of residents were partially vaccinated, while 47% were fully vaccinated.

- On August 31, 144 people were treated for COVID-19 at Springfield Hospitals, compared to 265 on July 30.
