The Biden administration wants MLB to back the season a month

MLB owners aren’t alone in wanting the season to go back a month. The federal government would like this to happen as well.

According to The Athletic, members of President Biden’s administration recently told homeowners that they would like the season to go back a month so players can get vaccinated by then.

However, the Players Association chose not to participate in this discussion, without wanting to be pressured into a delay. Except for a COVID-19 outbreak, the season will begin in time after the union rejected MLB’s proposal for a 154-game season that began late. The union has scheduled a subsequent call with government officials without MLB involvement.

The long-awaited introduction of another vaccine, that of Johnson & Johnson, was behind the government’s reasoning. Athletic reported that MLB did not disclose details of the meeting to the Players Association, but did report the team presidents.

It doesn’t seem to matter right now. The season, at least for now, is expected to start on time.
