In January, 59% said they trusted the election in that country to reflect the will of the people, while 40% said they did not have that confidence.
Today? The majority of Americans (52%) say they do not trust that the election will reflect the will of the people, while 48% say yes.
This is a significant change in less than a year, in the exact wrong direction. And it is fed mainly by Republicans, 76% (!) Of whom claim to have little or no confidence in the election that reflects the will of the people.
This is not the only data point in the poll that suggests Trump’s big lie works.
While 63% of all respondents said Biden “legitimately won enough votes to win the presidency,” the story was very, very different among Republicans.
Among that group, 78% said Biden did not win enough votes to legitimately win the election. True: 8 out of 10 Republicans think Biden he did not win the electionn.
That, well, go. What these figures make clear is that among Republicans Donald Trump wins and the Big Lie he tells. Winning is a relative term, of course. Because building a political party around a lie is the fastest way to destroy a political party.
The point: Trump’s fever didn’t break after the 2020 election. In fact, it’s hotter than ever.
