Difficult every day than the complete Baldur’s Gate 3 the experience hasn’t come out yet, but we get there. Today, developer Larian has removed the fourth patch for the Divinity: original sin 2 sequel /Baldur’s Gate order-sequel, which he calls it’s his “biggest patch so far”. Highlights include the class of druids, loaded dice to avoid critical crashes all the time, and new corpses to communicate with, if you’re into this sort of thing.
The druid is definitely the centerpiece here. If you play as one, you will gain the ability to transform into a whole mess of animals, including a lousy wolf, a bear, a cat, a crow, and a spider. In most games, these would work as simple combat modifiers, but in BG3, new forms mean alternative travel options, the ability to talk to animals and new search results. Also, the first act in the main story of the game basically revolves around a circle of druids, meaning that if you are a druid, the story will be radically different.
Other features are smaller, but still impactful. Loaded dice prevent you from making lines of hyper-lucky or unfortunate rolls when you participate in dialogues or actions. It seems useful, given the number of times I’ve reloaded frustrated savings due to absurd rolls. That said, if you want pure RNG, you can turn off the feature.
The Speaks with the Dead ability has also received a major upgrade, adding attractive kinetics and, of course, more corpses. Larian points out that if you get lost because you’re not paying attention to the story and just killing everyone, now you can only talk to their horrible remains. How fun!
There are also a lot of graphic and quality of life improvements, so people who like to look at things and be alive, respectively, should like them. The patch is now available on Steam, GOG, and Stadia, the latest of which you can only use if you know the spell Talk to the dead in real life.
