LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred Monday morning in Lauderhill.
The crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Northwest 16th Street and North State Road 7.
Lauderhill police lieutenant Michael Santiago said officers arrived at the scene to find two vehicles with significant damage.
He said detectives believe a BMW involved in the collision was speeding north toward State Road 7 while a Mercedes-Benz was heading south before attempting a left turn to go to the left. east northwest of 16th Street.
As the Mercedes turned left, the two vehicles collided and sent the BMW crashing into a nearby bus stop, Santiago said.
The BMW driver was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
The driver of the Mercedes was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, Santiago said.

Santiago said North State Road 7 and Northwest 16th Street remain closed while investigators process the scene. Drivers are asked to use Northwest 31st Avenue as an alternative route for the time being.
