The Buccaneers will sign the quarterback Drew Stanton in the training squad, such as Peter Schrager of NFL.com tweets. Stanton played head coach Bruce Arians with the cardinals, so it will provide a mix of familiarity and assurance somewhere behind Tom Brady. 
Stanton, 36, first entered the league in 2007 as a second-round pick for the Lions. He hasn’t lived up to his hype at Michigan State, but he’s been a favorite field for many coaches throughout the league. In all, he has 38 professional appearances, including 17 initiatives.
His last live action came in 2017 on the Arians ’Cardinals team, but he has been in the NFL’s orbit for the past few years. Stanton’s two-year contract with Brown in 2018 did not cause any snapshots, but was found in the news as part of last year Freddie Kitchens drama. It was rumored that Stanton, QB’s third thread, would play an important role in the team’s game plan. That didn’t go well with the star Odell Beckham Jr., offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and many others in the dressing room.
Of course, Stanton is not expected to suppress offensive control of Arians or Brady, who will be aiming for a playoff spot on Saturday against the Lions.
