His deputy Claude DeBellefeuille, of the Quebec Bloc party, noted Amos’ indiscretion during question period.
“We saw a member improperly dressed during question period. That is, undressed. So you may remind members, especially men, that dresses and ties are appropriate,” DeBellefeuille said in French, according to the parliamentary translator.
“We saw that the member was in very good condition, but I think this member should be reminded of what is appropriate and of controlling his camera.
House Speaker Anthony Rota responded to DeBellefeuille: “I want to thank the honorable member for his comments,” Rota said. “I was missing him.”
Amos then posted an apology on his Twitter account.
“I sincerely apologize to all my colleagues in the House. It was an honest mistake + it will not happen again.”
Amos is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
CNN has contacted Amos and the prime minister’s office to comment.
In June 2020, the Canadian parliament saw another controversy after Canadian New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh was forced to leave the building after calling another politician a “racist”.
Singh made the accusation in the House of Commons after Alain Therrien, of the Bloc Québécois party, refused to support a motion calling on parliament to acknowledge the existence of systemic racism by the force of the Royal Mounted Police Canadian.
The Bloc Québécois tweeted to address the exchange and urged Singh to apologize for his statements, which he said “soiled” Therrien’s reputation.
